Alex Coleys Whispers being shown in Raw Memory

Whispers, sepia toned silver gelatin print, 2011

Alex Coley earned an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Visual Studies at The University of Toronto in 2008 and is a new member of Gallery 44.

Alex Coley works in film based photo manipulations and intaglio printmaking. She is interested in the process of time, our history and the effects of our memory on the present. Her techniques reconcile the technological reality of modern life with the near obsolete processes of yesterday. By creating a hybrid in translation she comes to terms with changing technology and at the same time, maintains some of our rich artistic history. She is interested in bringing added awareness to the dissolving boundaries between mediums, technologies and possible approaches to art making.
John Steinbeck asked “How will we know it’s us without our past?”
